As the daughter of an Army officer, J. Jamison Lofton traveled the world, an upbringing that introduced her to many different people with equally diverse perspectives. Those encounters enable her to fully recognize the singular daily experiences facing teachers in their classrooms, because she has taught in nearly every kind of classroom there is.
Her teaching career spans Detroit high schools, the Calumet Center in Highland Park, the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility, Upward Bound at Eastern Michigan University, and adjunct posts at Wayne State University and Jackson College, preparing students for the GED, for Composition I, and for everything a four-year institution will ask of them. Across every setting, the throughline is the same: grammar, literature, and composition taught with high expectations, and assessment modified so students with IEPs and challenging circumstances can genuinely succeed.
Having spent more than 20 years in the educational arena, I believe wholeheartedly the adage: ALL children CAN learn!
Before the classroom, she built a first career in communications, with a Master of Arts in Public Communications from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting from Michigan State University, then earned her Master of Arts in Teaching at Wayne State University in Secondary English and Speech. That communications training shows in every workshop she delivers: clear, engaging, and built to land.
Beyond training, Jamison tutors students from 10th grade through college undergraduates and edits finished manuscripts. Off the clock she reads, travels, and listens to mainstream jazz.
